ShimmerShan Website

ShimmerShan - Nail Technician

Aug - Oct 2022

Project Overview

I was responsible for the end-to-end creation of ShimmerShan’s digital footprint. The goal was to build a professional "home base" that consolidated the brand’s portfolio, service menu, and contact channels into a single, cohesive experience.

Contributions

  • Visual Identity Development: Synthesized existing brand assets into a cohesive digital-first color palette and mood board.
  • Custom UI Elements: Designed a set of bespoke icons in Figma to differentiate the brand from standard industry templates.
  • Competitor Benchmarking: Researched local service providers to establish a competitive pricing structure and gallery layout.
  • Responsive Prototyping: Built high-fidelity desktop and mobile mock-ups to ensure a seamless experience across all devices.

  • WordPress Implementation: Built a lightweight, 4-page responsive site using the Elementor framework.
  • Conversion Optimization: Integrated a direct-to-WhatsApp "Book Now" functionality to streamline the client’s appointment process.
  • Local SEO & Discovery: Configured a Google Maps integration and localized metadata to help the business appear in regional searches.
  • Iterative Polishing: Refined the UI based on peer feedback and client reviews to improve navigation and legibility.
  • Client Management: Acted as the sole point of contact, translating the client’s business goals into technical requirements.
  • Asset Management: Organized and optimized client-provided imagery for web performance.
  • Project Delivery: Managed the full lifecycle from initial discovery meetings to live deployment.

Project Deep-Dive

Problem Statement

The client relied exclusively on social media for discovery, which presented several challenges:

  • Discovery Limits: Potential clients outside of her immediate social circle had no way of finding her services via search engines.
  • Information Fragmentation: Pricing and portfolio work were scattered across various posts, making it difficult for new users to find a clear service list.
  • Friction in Booking: There was no direct "call to action" to bridge the gap between viewing her work and securing an appointment.

My Process

As my first solo venture, I focused on establishing a structured workflow:

  • Brand Translation: Synthesized existing brand assets (logo and posters) into a digital-first visual language, including a custom color palette and mood board.
  • Asset Creation: Designed a set of custom icons to ensure the UI felt unique to the ShimmerShan brand rather than using generic stock assets.
  • User Research: Conducted a competitor analysis of local beauty service providers to determine standard pricing layouts and gallery structures.
  • Prototyping: Built high-fidelity mockups in Figma for both desktop and mobile to ensure the client was aligned with the visual direction before development began.

Solutions

I developed a lightweight, responsive site using WordPress and Elementor Free, prioritizing speed and ease of use:

  • Direct Conversion Path: Implemented a prominent "Book Now" system that triggers a direct WhatsApp conversation, removing the friction of manual number saving.
  • Content Architecture: Structured the site into four key areas: Home (Value Prop), About (Trust Building), Pricing (Transparency), and Gallery (Social Proof).
  • Local SEO Foundation: Integrated Google Maps into the footer to assist with local search visibility and physical wayfinding.
  • Iterative Refinement: Used feedback from the client and internal peer testing to polish the navigation and image loading states.

Outcomes

The project resulted in a fully functional, live digital storefront that effectively expanded the brand's reach:

  • Omnichannel Presence: The site successfully indexed on Google and was integrated into the client’s Google Business Profile (Maps).
  • Professionalization: Provided the client with a professional URL to share with prospective high-end clients, moving beyond the casual nature of social media DMs.
  • Asset Library: Created a reusable design system (icons and colors) that the client can now use for future marketing materials.

Challenges & Outtakes

  • Scope & Tooling: Working within the constraints of the Free version of Elementor required creative problem-solving and minimalist design choices that worked within the constraints.
  • Direct-to-Client Communication: This project taught me the importance of translating "design-speak" into business value when presenting mood boards and wireframes to a small business owner.
  • The "Post-Handoff" Gap: I realized the importance of a formal hand-off process. This experience taught me to proactively follow up on site performance and marketing integration to better measure a project's long-term success and gather lessons to improve my work in the future.
